Food and Loathing Restaurant Guide – Ep 8: LGBTQ + Food = Fun

Before Jason, Rich and I start our conversation about where we’ve been, Jason shares some listener recommendations for cheesesteaks: the always popular Pop’s, and a spot none of us has been to, Lucino’s on Tropicana and Eastern.

I venture back into a topic I once covered professionally: Las Vegas topless clubs. In this case, it’s the new show, A Touch of Burlesque, at Centerfolds Cabaret.

Jason speaks about a very strange wagyu tasting he attended at Sparrow + Wolf.

Rich discusses his anniversary lunch at Wally’s in Resorts World. That leads into a conversation of the lunch I had with Jason at that casino’s food hall, Famous Foods, during which I mention my preference for Marigold’s when I’m looking for something casual at Resorts World.

I recount a story about a house party I attended that was catered by John Church of Johnny C’s Diner.and make quick mentions of Osteria Costa at The Mirage and a tea spot called Queen of Hearts in Henderson.

Rich fills us in on where he ate in Nashville, including a spot called Adele’s.

Jason made one last visit to Harvest in Bellagio before Chef Roy Ellamar’s exit, and sampled some Mexican ice pops at Paleta Bar in Chinatown’s Shanghai Plaza.

For the centerpiece of our show this week, we head to DW Bistro in The Gramercy to speak about the history and current state of LGBTQ-owned/operated/friends bars and restaurants in our valley. We’re joined for this segment by DW co-owner Bryce Krausman and Eduardo Cordova , owner of the Arts District’s only gay bar, The Garden. Here are a few of the places they mention that are currently in operation:

Free Zone (a gay bar), Piranha (a gay club) The Double Down Saloon (a punk rock dive bar) in the “tri-bar area” off of Paradise Road.

Badlands bar and Hawk’s Gym in the Historic Commercial Center off of Sahara Avenue.

Temptations Sundays pool party at The Luxor.

In the final segment, we take a look at some news.

I share an announcement by Eduardo Cordova (from the last segment) about his new piano lounge Star, located at 3449 Sammy Davis Jr. Drive.

Crafthaus Brewery’s Wyndee Forrest tells us about a beer they brewed especially for the Psycho Las Vegas concert.

Chef Jeffrey Weiss previews the reboot of his Spanish restaurant Valencian Gold, on Rainbow Boulevard and Windmill Lane.
