Food and Loathing Restaurant Guide -- Ep 6: Going Downtown
Jason, Rich and I open the show at DW Bistro in The Gramercy, near the Russell Road exit of the 215 freeway.
Jason begins the show telling us about the Nicholas Cage movie
Pig.
Jason and I then discussed our visit to Momofuku in The Cosmopolitan
of Las Vegas.
We also spoke about our diner together at Trattoria Reggiano in Downtown Summerlin.
I mentioned my meal at El Luchador, and then played an interview with the restaurant’s chef Aaron Bryan about the early arrival of Hatch chili peppers.
I also spoke about my recent brunch at 7th &
Carson.
I mentioned with fact that Mon Ami Gabi and VegeNation were recently honored in Trip Advisor’s Best of the Best Restaurant Awards, and played an interview with Vegenation chef Donald Lemperle.
The centerpiece of this show is a conversation Jason,
Rich and I had with Scott Roeben of Vital Vegas and Chef Dan Coughlin at Coughlin’s
Fremont East restaurant Le Thai.
After a brief discussion on the nature of journalism and the
differences between hard news reporting and gossip reporting, we get into a
discussion of some our favorite Downtown Las Vegas businesses. They include:
Eat by Natalie Young on Carson Avenue
Carson Kitchen by the late Kerry Simon
Coughlin’s 8 East in Circa
Vegas Test Kitchen, located next to Ferguson’s Downtown
Publicus on Fremont and Maryland Parkway
For cocktails: The Griffin and Downtown Cocktail Room in the
Fremont East area, Vegas Vickie's in Circa and Velveteen Rabbit in the Arts District
And speaking of the Arts District, Scott mentioned the role Esther’sKitchenhas played in establishing the neighborhood as a serious destination.
In our final segment, as I enjoyed some DW Bistro turkey sliders, Jason added some new Downtown news about Peyote coming to Ferguson’s Downtown.
We then played an interview with Kim Owens of Main Street Provisions, about her involvement in Peyote.
We also shared some news on a Las Vegas Pizza Alliance party at
Good Pie on Main Street.
After I went off on a rant abut Rich’s tomato shortage
story, and we picked a winner for our Tom Papa ticket giveaway, I offered a quick
review of the THC and CBD-infused pomegranate gummies by Wyld.
